The abortion pill reversal procedure can occur after the first dose of a medical abortion (mifepristone/RU-486) is taken orally. It is ineffective if the second set of pills (misoprostol) have been taken. Time is of the essence to start the reversal protocol preferably within 24 hours of taking mifepristone (first pill). There have been some reports stating successful reversals when treatment was started within 72 hours of taking the first abortion pill.
